Girls need to see women succeeding in STEM to believe they can too. So each of our scholars becomes that example for the next generation.

We fund master’s scholarships in Spain for women from Piura with a strong academic record. The scholarship covers the full tuition fee. Scholars also receive support with living costs, help with applying to universities, and mentoring.

Alongside the scholarships, we invest in the earliest stages of education. We bring school materials and learning tools to primary schools in Piura, including in rural areas. Our kits can include science books, notebooks, colouring pencils, rulers, whiteboards, projectors, desks, speakers, internet routers, fans, USB drives, digital libraries and basic English courses. This way, teaching improves from day one and girls gain the confidence to get closer to STEM: when a girl sees that science is for her, she dares to dream.
Junto con las becas, invertimos en las primeras etapas de la educación. Llevamos material escolar y herramientas de aprendizaje a escuelas primarias de Piura, también en zonas rurales. Scholars receive end-to-end support: choosing a programme, writing a CV and motivation letter, applying to the university, guidance on the paperwork, and what to expect from life abroad. That support comes from our team and our network, which includes graduates of the University of Manchester and the Barcelona School of Economics, and people who received admission and funding offers from leading European universities. After finishing their studies, every scholar joins our network of mentors and supports the students who apply next - which is what makes the cycle self-sustaining.
Las becarias reciben acompañamiento de principio a fin: elección del programa, redacción del CV y carta de motivación, postulación a la universidad y los consejos sobre la documentación, y qué esperar de la vida en el extranjero. Ese apoyo proviene de nuestro equipo y de nuestra red, que incluye graduados de la Universidad de Mánchester y la Barcelona School of Economics, y personas que recibieron ofertas de admisión y financiación de universidades europeas líderes. In the pupils’ words. Their favourite subjects include Science, Communication, Religion and Physical Education. One of the girls told us she walks more than an hour through the mountains every day, one way, to reach school and be able to study. That daily effort is the clearest proof of how much they want to learn.

Una de las niñas nos contó que cada día camina más de una hora por la montaña, solo de ida, para llegar a la escuela y poder estudiar. We attended the opening of an exhibition born from artisan exchanges between Valencia and Piura.Asistimos a la inauguración de una muestra nacida del intercambio entre artesanos de Valencia y Piura.Byliśmy na otwarciu wystawy, która powstała z wymiany między rzemieślnikami z Walencji i Piury.
At the invitation of UDEP’s Projects Office, we attended the opening, at the Alliance Française of Piura, of a ceramics exhibition that brings together pieces born from an exchange between women artisans from Piura and Valencia. The project “Innovating and revaluing traditions to improve the competitiveness of Chulucanas ceramics” aims to innovate without losing local tradition. It is co-funded by the Generalitat Valenciana and delivered by an alliance of institutions from Peru and Spain, including the University of Piura and the Universitat Politècnica de València.

Na zaproszenie Biura Projektów UDEP byliśmy w Alliance Française w Piurze na otwarciu wystawy ceramiki, na której pokazano prace powstałe z wymiany między rzemieślniczkami z Piury i Walencji. Projekt „Innowacja i odnowienie tradycji dla wzrostu konkurencyjności ceramiki z Chulucanas” ma na celu wprowadzanie innowacji bez utraty lokalnej tradycji. On 2 October, at the University of Piura campus, more than 20 students spent an hour with us on which master’s programmes exist in Spain, what they cost and when applications close; which scholarships to apply for; how to fit a CV on one page; and the motivation letter: the “why”, not the “what”. In addition, a UDEP graduate shared her experience of studying in Spain.
